Finally some nice light to take some pictures!!

Finally after two weeks of bad weather and no light, we got two hours of sun this afternoon. I therefore went to Tjörnin again because I know the effect of the light on the water is beautiful there… also because a ring-billed gull and a little gull were observed there yesterday and they are both rare species. I’ve seen them both which brings me to 38 species this year.

I know some of you are wondering how many species and which ones are common or not in Iceland. So for those who are interested, I suggest you visit the website of Yann Kolbeinsson: http://notendur.hi.is/yannk/indexeng.html You will get all the information you would like from his very nice pages, even the sighting of rare species on a daily base.

I managed to double my number of pictures taken in January and was quite able to test the capacity of the 50D playing a lot with the settings! So I had to choose among many pictures which one to show you. So here is the selection.
Cheers,
Chris.

A bientôt,
Chris.

Photo of the Month: Wood Duck

Sent in by Larry Kirtley, this photo of a Wood Duck drake in his breeding plumage is so vibrant it’s almost as if he’s a painting.

Wood Ducks will find their mates in January and arrive at their breeding grounds in the spring already paired. This species is one of the few North American Ducks that nest in trees.

Thanks for sharing this fabulous image, Larry!
